How accurate is it?

Works with all major UK networks

The service enables you to locate mobiles on the main UK networks – Fresh, O2, Orange, Tesco Mobile, T-Mobile, Vodafone. The user’s mobile must be switched on in order for its current location to be provided to you – because the phone’s signal is picked up by the base stations that make up the operator’s network.

Accuracy Depends on Network Coverage

We display the location of the phone as a map on your PC, or as a text message to your phone. In either case, the accuracy depends on the density of the base stations in the area around the phone you are locating. It is not possible to provide pinpoint accuracy.

  • For the service to work, the phone has to be switched on and within network coverage.
  • Find Your Child is designed to provide you with reassurance that your children are more or less where you expect them to be.
  • At present, the greatest level of accuracy that you will get is to 150m radius of the phone. The accuracy is dependent on the density of base stations operated by Orange, Vodafone etc - and in many areas the accuracy will be several hundred metres, and even out to kilometres.
  • Over time, we will be able to deliver 150 metre accuracy with greater consistency – as the network coverage improves and as handset technology advances to include GPS chips.
  • Although pinpoint accuracy might be useful in some instances, we do not intend to make this available because of the obvious risk of misuse.
